ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office announced on July 23 that they've received additional funding for their Medication Assisted Treatment (M.A.T.) program.

Funded by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, the budget for the project has been increased by $267,394.84. It was originally set at $473,002 but now totals $740,396.64 with this new grant.

A release from the sheriff's office said the program should begin sometime between late summer and fall 2024.

"With this M.A.T. program and increased grant funding, we can do more to help individuals with substance-use disorder that arrive at our jail," said Sheriff Sam Page. "This is an epidemic and local jails are on the front lines, but we are also in a unique position to help people get back on the right track and hopefully into lifelong recovery."
