NORTH CAROLINA, USA — UPDATE: The Buncombe County Government said I-40 East out of Buncombe County is open.
There are hundreds of roads still closed in North Carolina from the events of Helene.
A majority of these road closures are in the western part of the state.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation is still warning people to not travel in or to western North Carolina. I-40 is impassable at multiple locations and I-26 is closed at the Tennessee state line.
NCDOT said all roads in western North Carolina should be considered closed and non-emergency travel is prohibited.
We have compiled a list of road closures throughout North Carolina with a majority of them being related to Helene.
This list may be subject to change as crews and emergency responders continue working to clear roadways of debris from the storm, including fallen trees and downed power lines.
