REIDSVILLE, N.C. — The Reidsville Economic Development announced Tuesday pet nutrition company Farmina Pet Food USA has chosen to invest in Rockingham County, bringing 129 new jobs to the county.
The company provides scientifically developed foods and personalized nutrition services for dogs and cats and will open a new site in Reidsville.
Farmina plans to bring the new jobs over the next five years and a total investment of nearly $28.5 million.
The pet food company will bring a variety of jobs including positions in manufacturing, production, and sales. City officials said most jobs will be in production.
“We ideally would like to grow our company,” Farmina CEO Angelo Russo said. “We are very satisfied and are looking into further investments in the future.”
Reidsville city officials said the average salary would be around $46,700 a year, creating a $6.15 million annual payroll impact in the region. Officials plan for the 26-acre site to locate near the Reidsville Industrial Park.
State officials said Rockingham County’s overall wages currently average $35,146 per year.
According to Gov. Roy Cooper’s office, the North Carolina Department of Commerce led the state’s efforts to recruit Farmina. Farmina’s North Carolina workforce will also include positions ranging from machine operators and shipping clerks to veterinarians and chemical technicians.
Gov. Cooper’s office said Farmina’s new presence in North Carolina will be facilitated, in part, by a Job Development Investment Grant approved by the state’s Economic Investment Committee.
The office said the project is estimated to grow the state’s economy by more than $857 million over the 12-year term of the grant.
City officials plan to break ground on the project in 2021 and said construction should end in 2023.
“This is a steppingstone for Farmina and will help them become an even greater participant in the pet food industry,” NC Senator Phil Berger said.
