DANVILLE, Va. — After pleading guilty to several charges, including attempted abduction, a Virginia judge sentenced Carl Ray Kennedy sentenced to 6 years in prison Wednesday.
Kennedy was caught by investigators last June in Randolph County, N.C. after they say he took his then 7-month old daughter from her mother in Danville, Va. without authorization.
There was an AMBER Alert out for baby Emma Grace for about a day and a half before Kennedy was apprehended in Randleman. He was caught at a friend's house after trying to disguise his car.
Investigators say Kennedy abducted Emma from a Danville gas station after assaulting Emma's while he was armed with a knife. Kennedy is a registered sex offender. Danville Police, FBI, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Secret Service were all involved in the case.
After he was caught, Kennedy was extradited to Virginia to face charges. He ultimately plead guilty to attempted abduction; felony possession of a weapon; kidnapping of a child by a parent; assault; larceny; and child abuse.
He's also facing federal charges because he crossed state lines.
