GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Southeast Greensboro Coalition said they want to see results when it comes to combatting violence along Randleman Road.
The group said neighbors need more residential power in order to decrease crime.
The city of Greensboro said they are working to make some changes, because they share community members concerns.
The outrage surrounding crime along Randleman Road has been there for a while, but a recent shooting brought up continued concerns.
Greensboro police said they responded to a shots fired call Tuesday around 6:45 p.m.
Witnesses told officers that multiple shots were fired in the parking lot of the Food Lion between two cars.
No one was hurt but at least one car was hit by bullets.
Crystal Black with the Southeast Greensboro Coalition said all issues in that area are centered around commercial properties.
She said there's a lack of ordinances surrounding properties to prevent situations like this from happening outside a building.
"There are a lot of ordinances that are in place to ensure that people take care of their homes. There is nothing really that exists that require commercial businesses, commercial owners to step up to the plate and take care of the property that they deemed they were going to do when they initially came into our communities and sold us that wooden nickel," Black said.
Assistant City Manager, Nathaniel Davis said conversations are being had to address the issues along Randleman Road.
As far as new ordinances are concerned, the city said they are discussing with their legal department to make sure they are able to create them.
Davis said, "We want to make sure that if businesses are operating, that they're operating, they're good partners, not only to other businesses, but also to our community. Short -term, our city manager's office, along with our legal team and our police department, will continue to engage businesses to make sure that we have the right level of compliance, to make sure that they're operating properly."
Greensboro police also said they are increasing patrol in that area to add more law enforcement presence.
Next week, on July 20, there will be an area picnic to talk about the Randleman Road corridor.
