ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. -- The Alamance County Health Department said a rabid fox attacked a person by biting and scratching their leg. It happened on Wednesday near East Main Street and Pine Street near Haw River.
Health leaders are asking anyone else who could have come in contact with the fox to contact them immediately. They also said if you have pets outside to examine them for any wounds and notify animal control if you have any questions.
Here's what you need to do if you're bitten by any animal:
- Wash the wound with soap and running water for ten (10) minutes and seek medical attention immediately.
- Write down the location of the animal and a description of the animal to provide to animal control. If the animal is someone's pet, also get the owner's name and address. Give this information to animal control or the health department.
- Do not try to catch any wild or stray animal
This is the third confirmed case of rabies in Alamance County.
Contact the health department at 336-570-6367.
