CLIMAX, NC—After more than four days, neighbors in Climax finally got back their power. Shortly after, a power line caught fire.
Dean Booher lives in Climax. He told WFMY News 2's Liz Crawford that the power went out around 1 a.m. on Friday. It was finally restored Tuesday around 6 p.m. Shortly after, Dean and his wife noticed sparks flying off a tree near his home.
"Of course I run down and called 911," said Dean.
The Southeast Guilford fire department told WFMY it was minor likely due to a newly charged power line that sparked a branch. They said they would monitor the scene until Duke Energy got there to trim the branches back.
For Dean Booher, it's one thing after another so he's taking things in stride. The Boohers had 23 trees down on their property alone, three of which fell on their home. Another fell on an old car. The biggest inconvenience has been trying to get by without water. They're using a horse troth in the back yard to flush the toilet.
"We went to the Y one day and got a shower so we were able to stay clean. Getting the laundry done, that's a different story."
Dean is most concerned for his baby grandson who lives next door. Fortunately, weather has been mild but as temperatures cool over the week, Dean knows the baby will need heat.
Dean and his wife had power by Tuesday night but his son and grandson next door did not.
