Charlotte, NC -- Police say a Winston-Salem robbery suspect dove eight floors down a laundry chute to avoid arrest Friday night.Police in Charlotte cornered Sherrod Nichols on the 10th floor of the Charlotte Marriot Executive Hotel. They say he jumped in a laundry chute and fell to the 2nd floor. However when he tried to get out, officers were waiting for him. But police say he didn't go peacefully. They say he assaulted an officer before they could cuff him.Officers say he was hiding out with a woman. Her identity was not released and charges are pending against her. Police in Winston-Salem arrested Nichols on Wednesday for two store robberies. They say he was injured and needed treatment at Forsyth Memorial Hospital.
