Pilot Killed In Burlington Plane Crash Identified

The pilot killed in a Burlington plane crash Wednesday morning has been identified.

Burlington, NC -- A plane crash near North Park Community Center in Burlington at 6 am Wednesday morning claimed the life of the pilot.

The pilot has been identified as David Gamble from Greensboro.

The FAA said the plane, a Pilatus PC-12, crashed after departure from Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport. The plane's destination was Morristown Municipal Airport in New Jersey. The pilot was the only person on board.

Sharpe Rd. and surrounding areas were closed as police contained most of the debris located on a nearby softball field. Police said as much as 400 gallons of jet fuel may have been spilled resulting from the crash.

The plane was owned by LabCorp, a clinical lab testing company in Burlington, and was carrying interoffice mail.

Police said about 50 emergency responders and LabCorp representatives were on the scene.
