Pedestrian killed in crash, responding fire truck hit by another car, police say

WILKESBORO, N.C. — A pedestrian is dead after a crash in Wilkesboro Sunday, police said a responding fire truck was also hit by another car.

Wilkesboro police said they responded to a crash at the intersection of US Hwy 421 and Addison Avenue around 3:10 a.m.

Police said a pedestrian was hit in the crash.

Officers said the pedestrian died from injuries from the crash.

Alcohol was not a factor in this crash, according to police.

During the investigation, traffic was detoured at Winkler Mill Road to allow officers to conduct the initial crash investigation.

A driver approached the detour area, failed to stop, and struck a Wilkesboro Fire truck causing extensive damage to the driver's car and the fire truck.

Police said no was in the fire truck at the time of the crash and that no one was injured in this crash.

The investigation into the fire truck crash, led investigators to believe the driver was impaired.

The driver who crashed into the fire truck was arrested and charged with Driving While Impaired.

Both investigations are ongoing.
