THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A pedestrian is suffering from serious injuries after a hit-and-run early Wednesday morning, Thomasville police say.
Officers are investigating the incident. They said the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Lincoln Street.
Cortez Dyshawn Barrier, 18, was walking on the sidewalk, going north on Martin Luther King Drive. The suspect car was also going north on Martin Luther King Drive and drove off the right side of the road onto the sidewalk and hit Barrier.
Barrier was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Police have identified a person of interest and located the car involved in the hit-and-run.
A neighbor who lives nearby said the entire situation was scary.
"I was scared. I thought the house was on fire. The lights were lighting up everything, so I checked on everybody, and I looked out the window that's when I saw an incident outside," said Rob Gregg said.
