PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. -- The new Nicholas Sparks movie "The Longest Ride" features locations filmed in the Triad.

The movie, starring Clint Eastwood's son, Scott Eastwood, premieres Friday, April 10, in theaters nationwide. Local sites used in the film include the Mitchell River House in Surry County, a privately owned lake in the region, Wake Forest University, and the Lawrence Joel Coliseum. Other sites were filmed in the Wilmington region.

The Piedmont Triad Film Commission said they worked three months scouting farms, rodeo arenas, and submitted images of area universities.

The movie is about a former bull-riding champion, Luke, played by Eastwood, who is in love with a college student, Sophia. However, conflicting paths in life and different ideals threaten to tear their relationship apart.

Luke hopes to make a comeback on the rodeo circuit, and Sophia is about to start her dream job in New York's art world. As the couple ponders their romantic future, they find inspiration in Ira, an elderly man whose decades-long romance with his wife withstood the test of time.

The Piedmont Triad Film Commission says the economic impact of the movie recruited to the area was in the millions. They are confident the film will also bring more tourism to the area, especially to the picturesque farm in Surry County that served as a main backdrop to the story.
