SURRY COUNTY, N.C. — A parent has been arrested at North Surry High School after making threats toward school officials, deputies say.

Just before 1 p.m. Wednesday, Maria Luisa Rodriguez, 34, arrived at the school and engaged in a confrontation with the school administration and the school resource officer (SRO) over a matter involving her child.

After many attempts from the SRO to de-escalate the situation, Rodriguez continued to make threats toward the school administration and the SRO.

After refusing to cooperate with the deputy's directives to leave the school, and following the threats she made, she was arrested for one count of disorderly conduct at school, one count of second-degree trespass, one count of resisting a public officer, and one count of communicating threats.

Rodriguez was taken to the magistrate's office where she was given a $5,000 bond. She is expected to be in court on Oct. 23.
