ARCHDALE, N.C. — Tucker and April Lovings were looking for houses. They had seen several traditional-style homes and then they came across a house in Archdale. The home is what many now refer to as a barn dominion.
“The uniqueness drew us to it, a guy from Germany built the home, and he worked for NASCAR before moving back to Germany,” Lovings said.
The home looks like a barn on the outside but it’s a typical house on the inside. The Lovings have made a few improvements, including a new roof in 2022. The metal roof came with a 3-year warranty.
“It looked nice when they put it up,” Lovings said.
A few months after the roof was installed there was a bad storm and the Lovings noticed a leak. The couple called the company that installed it and was told it was an act of God and it wouldn’t happen again.
It seemed okay but several months later it started to leak again. There was water dripping in several spots inside the home. When Lovings went up in the attic he could see water coming in.
“It’s coming in, not dripping, it’s coming in,” Lovings said.
Another call was made to the company that installed the roof. This time Lovings was told they could come out and patch the roof, but it cost about $5,000.
“We were patching it is not going to work, we had four companies tell us it is not installed correctly,” Lovings said.
The couple decided to call WFMY News 2 since the roofing company would not agree to replace the roof and wanted to charge the Lovings to patch it.
We contacted the roofing company a few days later and spoke with one of the managers. It took about a week or so before the roofing company agreed to cover the cost of a new roof. A couple weeks after we contacted the roofing company the Lovings agreed to settle for around $22,000.
“Thank you very much, I’m glad we reached out to you and I’m glad you were able to help us, everything worked out,” Lovings said.
There are still a few items that need fixing inside but the new roof is already on and so far, it hasn’t leaked once.
