GREENSBORO, N.C. — When you’re behind the wheel of a car, the last thing you want to hear is a rattle or some kind of noise coming from under the hood.
“When I was driving down the road, I heard something that sounds different,” Lori Rankin said.
The 2019 Hyundai Tucson had just been in the shop a year earlier to have the engine replaced so this was a bit concerning. Rankin again took it back to the repair shop to be inspected.
“When I took it to them initially, they told me it’s an engine issue,” Rankin said.
This would be the second time in less than two years the engine needed repairing or replacing. The repair shop said it would take at least a week to know for certain what the problem is. Making matters worse, the dealership didn’t have any loaner cars for Ranking to drive.
“They told me I would have to get a rental car, but I would be reimbursed,” Rankin said.
After renting a car for a week, Rankin checked back with the repair shop for an update. The shop didn’t have an update, so Rankin waited another week and then another and another.
“After 30 days, I was not getting anywhere,” Rankin said.
There was an issue with her warranty claim. The dealership is now non-comital on whether the repairs are covered. Rankin asked to speak with a manager about the repairs and the rental car.
“I was told I wasn’t likely to be reimbursed for my rental,” Rankin said.
At this point, Rankin began to get a bit frustrated by the delays and the thought of having to pay for major repairs and the rental car.
“A friend of mine told me a couple of weeks ago I should call WFMY 2 Wants to Know, they can help,” Rankin said.
A couple of days later, Rankin called us asking for assistance. We immediately contacted the dealership about the repairs and the rental car reimbursement.
“Once you got involved and spoke with the dealership, they (did) some quick movement in terms (of) getting my car repaired,” Rankin said.
The SUV was fixed a few days later, turns out it was just a bad alternator. The dealership contacted Rankin about the repair cost and the rental car.
“They cover (the repair) at no cost, and they reimburse me for the rental,” Rankin said.
While it was a bit frustrating and took a bit longer than expected, Rankin was able to get the SUV fixed without an out-of-pocket expense.
“2 Wants to Know came through,” Rankin said.
Rankin said she tells her friends if they have a problem to call WFMY News 2, and she’s glad she did.
