Greensboro woman contacts WFMY News 2 over slow warranty response for engine repairs

Katelyn Seay thought the repairs would take a few weeks but after five months she was frustrated. When the problems persisted she called WFMY News 2.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Katelyn Seay used to have a file of all repairs and visits to the car dealership. Seay purchased a used minivan and not long after buying it, there was a major problem.

“It overheated so I took it back to the dealership because it was under warranty,” Seay said.

After a thorough inspection, the mechanic determined the minivan needed a new engine.

“It took forever to get approved for the warranty company to cover it,” Seay said.

The process took more than five months. The minivan just sat at the dealership until it was finally approved and ready to be fixed.

“It was very frustrating, a headache, for way too long,” Seay said.

The problems only continued after the initial repair. After picking the minivan up from the repair shop, she noticed a problem.

“We took it home and, on the way, home the check engine light came on again,” Seay said.

A mechanic would again do a complete diagnosis of the problem. The news wasn’t good. The engine they put in was bad and a new one was again needed. Instead of dealing with the repair shop and the warranty company on her own this time, Seay called WFMY News 2.

“You kind of stepped in like a middleman, you can get answers quicker,” Seay said.

We immediately reached out to the warranty company and the repair shop. This time the process was much quicker. It took only about three weeks for the warranty to be approved, and the repairs made.

“We are great, yeah,” Seay said.

After the repairs were made Seay decided enough was enough so she traded the minivan in and bought another van. So far she hasn’t needed to call us about problems with the new one.
