Car repair shop refunds customer for repairs after WFMY News 2 investigation

Wendell Grisim loved his car but the lights were not working well. He had them repaired and thought he would be reimbursed, turns out he wasn't.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Wendell Grisim was looking for a nice used car. He checked out a few different makes and models but eventually found a 2014 Cadillac at a used car lot.

The car was working well, but Grisim started to notice the headlights seemed to be dim when driving at night. He wasn’t too concerned but it kept getting worse, so he decided to take the car to a repair shop.

“It’s a great car except for the headlights,” Grisim said.

Turns out the wiring in the headlights was not working properly and needed to be replaced. The work was done, and it made a huge difference when driving at night.

“It’s like night and day, we actually have headlights that are bright now,” Grisim said.

That’s when a problem popped up. The repairs were around $2,000. Grisim was under the impression he’d be reimbursed later.

“I called customer service and was told where to submit the paperwork,” Grisim said.

He was later told any reimbursements had to be applied for before the repairs were done.

“So we are (out of luck) because we already paid $2,200 to have the lights replaced,” Grisim said.

It was then that Grisim decided to call WFMY News 2 for some guidance. We reached out to the repair shop to try and better understand the issue and explain what Grisim was telling us. A manager at the shop agreed to look into the issue and get back to us and Grisim.

About a week later Grisim received a call letting him know the repair shop would reimburse him $500. It wasn’t the entire amount, but Grisim was more than satisfied to accept the offer.

“I appreciate everything you did,” Grisim said.

The main thing is that the car lights are working great and Grisim feels a lot safer driving at night.
