2 Wants To Know saves a Greensboro homeowner $5,700 & dries up the wet garage

The new home's driveway and garage were poured wrong allowing water to seep in. Call For Action volunteers worked to get the issue fixed.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Rain in the forecast may mean you simply grab the umbrella and go about your day, but for a Greensboro family rain meant a wet garage.

Any time it rained, water would come into the garage, and when the rain dried up, the garage was left with dirt and whatever the rain had brought in with it.

This is a brand new house; the frustrated homeowners called 2 Wants To Know for help after going back and forth with the builder and not getting anywhere.

"The garage was poured in the wrong direction. It sloped inward. When it rained, it allowed water to go into the garage and create a big mess," said Christopher Jones, Call For Action volunteer.

A group of CFA volunteers comes to WFMY once a week and helps resolve consumer issues. Call For Action is a national consumer help group that trains local folks to help resolve consumer issues. Call For Action volunteers come in for 3 hours each week. They are trained to help resolve and mediate consumer issues.

In this instance, Jones helped the homeowners write a formal letter to the builder.

"In helping them with the letter, describing what was wrong with the driveway pad, the issue in the garage, and water destroying what was in the garage. I had a  back and forth with the builder for several months," said Jones.

The homeowner got an estimate to have the garage repoured and it was $5,700. Thankfully, Jones helped save the Greensboro family all that money when the builder agreed to redo it.
