Winston-Salem homeowner calls WFMY News 2 after flooring contractor botches job

A contractor was supposed to replace some cabinets, upgrade a bathroom, and put new wood floors in the house. Less than three weeks later the floors were popping up.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Jamie Booker has lived in the same house for almost four decades. The Winston-Salem home is at the end of a quiet street next to a greenbelt.

Booker’s daughter Porsha grew up in the home and visits her mother often. She recently noticed that the old home needed some repairs, so she contacted a company to update the floors, bathroom, and cabinets.

“I just wanted it to look better,” Booker said.

About two to three weeks after the job was completed, Booker noticed the floor was popping up.

“They sent a contractor out and a person under him to do a walkthrough, (to inspect floors),” Booker said.

While Booker waited for a follow-up phone call the floors continued to buckle. A contractor eventually came out a couple of weeks later and tried to glue the floors, but it didn’t work.

Booker called the company, but they never returned her calls. She continued to contact the company for the next couple of months with no results. She eventually decided to contact WFMY News 2 for help.

“I got frustrated I waited (another week) then I reached out to WFMY News 2,” Booker said.

We were able to reach a representative with the flooring company and explain the situation. The company agreed to send a contractor out to make the necessary repairs.

This time the repairs were done right, and the floors have been great ever since.

“We feel good about that, we are very, very happy that News 2 got involved,” Booker said.

Booker says her mom is thrilled with the repairs and loves the new cabinets and bathroom.
