HIGH POINT, N.C. — Dwayne Little will be the first to tell you he doesn’t move too fast or too far these days. Little uses a walker to get around the house, but it doesn’t keep him from going out around the town every now and then.
“You see I’m disabled, but I (must) get around. I need my car,” Little said.
His black KIA Soul is more than a car to Little — it’s freedom. The car connects Little to the world. He bought it just a few years ago.
“It was good at the beginning and then there was a problem with it,” Little said.
The check engine light came on and the car started to run a little rough before having a chance to take it in to be serviced, the car shut off while he was driving.
“What it does is it keeps cutting off as I’m going down the road and that’s dangerous,” Little said.
A couple of days later, Little took the car in to be checked out. The car is under warranty so Little figured any repairs would be covered. What he quickly discovered was that the dealership warranty didn’t cover all repairs.
“They said if you pay, we will fix it, but (we won’t) fix it unless you pay for it,” Little said.
It was about then that Little decided to call WFMY News 2 for help.
“I was frustrated,” Little said.
We contacted the dealership and it agreed to take another look at the car and see if anything could be done. The service manager agreed to flush the gas tank and clean it along with a few other components. The car has been running well ever since.
“If it was not for you, (the car) would still be sitting in the front yard because I was not paying to fix the car,” Little said.
This case didn’t take as long as some and Little is glad that it didn’t. His car is now back in the driveway — ready for the next time he wants to go for a drive.
