Plumbing contractor won't complete job so homeowner calls WFMY News 2

Joyce Boyd wanted a new bathtub for the bathroom. The bathtub needed shelves on the wall and a lower lip to make it easier to get in. Unfortunately, it wasn't right.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Tucked away on a quiet street in High Point is the home of Janice Boyd. The home was bought by Boyd and her husband back in 1964. The 3-bedroom house was on the small side for her then-growing family.

“I raised three girls and a boy (in this house), the girls shared one room, my son had a room and me, and my husband had a room,” Boyd said.

The house has been through a lot over the years and as houses tend to do has needed some repairs and upgrades through the years. One of the recent upgrades is a new bathtub in the bathroom.

“I needed a tub a little lower so I could step in easier,” Boyd said. “I called a plumber used for years if he could put bathtub in.”

The tub was installed a couple of weeks later and for the most part, looked good. There was however one problem. Boyd had asked to have shelves in the walls above the bathtub to put soap and other items on like the old one.

Boyd paid for the job up front but after she told him she wanted the shelves he stopped returning her calls.

“I kept calling and calling and texting for weeks and he never came (to the house) or called me back,” Boyd said.

After trying to reach him for several weeks Boyd decided to call WFMY News 2 for some assistance.

“I didn’t have a contract or anything,” Boyd said.

While it’s always best to have a signed contract outlining exactly what needs to be done and the pay schedule, we still called the contractor to see if anything could be worked out. After a couple of conversations, he agreed to refund Boyd $300 which would cover the cost of having the shelves installed.

“If you didn’t talk to him, I would not have (received) anything,” Boyd said.
