5K Has A Different Meaning For A Local Boy, Community

Johnny Van Kemp, his family and friends came together one year after Johnny was first diagnosed with leukemia. All the people who have supported Johnny through his journey came celebrated his journey back to full health Friday.

Greensboro, NC -- While runners and walkers of all ages gathered to promote activity among Triad youth, a local boy battling cancer and his community came together for a different reason.

Johnny Van Kemp, his family and friends came together one year after Johnny was first diagnosed with leukemia. All the people who have supported Johnny through his journey camecelebrated his journey back to full health Friday.

We first met Johnny in 2012, months after he'd been diagnosed with leukemia.His braveryinspired his community in so many ways. One high school student organized a bone marrow drive in Johnny's honor, and third graders from Johnny's school shaved their heads to support him.

Everyone who's supported Johnny met up at theFuel Up Play 60 5K Fun Run at Northern Guilford Middle School Friday.

The race, which promoted activity and healthy kids,started and finished by running through the Carolina Panthers' pre-game tunnel.
