GREENSBORO, N.C. — A nightclub in downtown Greensboro is temporarily closing due to safety violations, city officials say.

After an inspection at One17 Sofabar and Lounge on Greene Street, Greensboro Fire found several fire and life safety violations. Officials said that based on these violations, the business was ordered to temporarily shut down.

This comes shortly after a shooting in the area on Sunday.

On Feb. 25., Greensboro police said they responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of North Greene Street at around 2 a.m., where two victims were found on the scene and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Police said 24-year-old Devonte Jamaal Stephenson died at the hospital. The second victim was listed in critical condition, according to police.

The Greensboro Police Department said a previous safety review was conducted at the nightclub on Aug. 21, 2023, after multiple gun incidents and a non-fatal shooting that took place outside the business.

City officials said One17 Sofabar will remain closed until violations are cleared.
