LEXINGTON, N.C. -- Who would have thought a piece of history would have been discovered behind the walls in Lexington City Hall?
While crews were working on renovations at City Hall, they found barbecue pits that are believed to be from the 1940's-1950's. Assistant City Manager Terra Greene said the pits were discovered in the conference room where many media briefings are held.
According to the Triad Business Journal, the pits are believed to be from the city's first barbecue restaurant, Beck's Barbecue.
Greene says the City is thinking about how to incorporate these new discoveries to their annual BBQ Festival. They are working on finding a way to show off the pits along with other aspects of Lexington's barbecue heritage.
