Teen who drowned in Nags Head on July 3 identified

His identity hadn't previously been released after he was pronounced dead on July 3.

NAGS HEAD, N.C. — The teenager who was pulled out of the ocean at Nags Head on July 3 has been identified as 18-year-old Ibrahim Salam Sankoh of Columbus, Ohio.

Nag's Head Police, Fire and Rescue Departments were originally called to the Gull Street Public Beach Access on July 3 before 3 p.m. to rescue three swimmers. Greensville CBS affiliate WCNT said only two of the swimmers returned to shore, one being pulled by a lifeguard. The third swimmer, Sankoh, couldn't be found. 

Nags Head police used a drone to find Sankoh. He was then transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
