WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police believe more than one person broke into a building at a cemetery and stayed there for multiple days.
The building, used for storage and gatherings at Odd Fellows Cemetery, was found with broken windows, trash inside and beds left behind.
"It's a mess," said James Clyburn, President of the Friends of Odd Fellows Cemetery, a volunteer group that has been working to restore the cemetery for decades. "They had food on the table, dogs, everything else in here. I was upset about it."
This is the second time the building has been broken into in the last 2 years. In 2015, someone broke in and stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment like lawn mowers and clippers.
Clyburn said he is looking to add safety measures to the building. He is considering an alarm system.
Volunteers with the Friends of Odd Fellows Cemetery are planning to clean up the building on Saturday, November 18, according to Clyburn. He said anyone willing to help is welcome to join.
Winston-Salem police are looking for the people who had been staying in the building. If you have any information, you can call the department at 336-773-7700.
