GREENSBORO, N.C. — 2 Wants To Know is clearing up any confusion you might have about voting and registering to vote.

FACT: There is no way for you to register to vote and vote on election day. That deadline has passed. There will be no voting for you on election day if you have not registered.

FACT: You can still register and vote in this election, but you have to do both before Election Day.

"If you haven't registered to vote yet and you still want to vote you only have one option, and that is to go to an early voting site during the early voting period and do what's called same-day registration where you can register and vote there but that ends when early voting ends. It is not available on Election Day," said Charlie Collicutt, Guilford County Board of Elections Director.

FACT: if you haven't registered to vote, your only option is to register and vote on the same day during Early Voting.

When you register you'll need proof of residence. You need one document to prove your current address. It could be a North Carolina driver's license or it could be a copy of a current utility bill or a paycheck or bank statement.

Remember, all voters need a picture ID to vote. There is a slew of photo IDs that are accepted from a driver's license to a veteran ID card and much more.

Early voting started this week and it runs through November 2, 2024. The times each day and locations depend on your county. So before you go out to register and vote, look at your county's Board of Elections website.
