‘No One Wins’: Father Empathizes With Family of Man Convicted of Killing His Teen Daughter

"When I first saw him come out of course my first time actually seeing him in person -- there was some anger there," said Forest Fleming, the father of Zoe Fleming.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Some justice for a Triad family, who's endured pain and loss.

The man who shot and killed 16-year-old Zoe Fleming in Greensboro is headed to prison.

We spoke with the teenage victim's father about justice being served.

Forrest Fleming said Tuesday in the courtroom was incredibly tough.

He had to relive his own daughter's death and see another family lose a son.

"When I first saw him come out of course my first time actually seeing him in person -- there was some anger there," said Forest Fleming, the father of Zoe Fleming.

Fleming is talking about, Hajji Johnson, the man who murdered his daughter.

Johnson was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to a mandatory 16 years in prison.

"The sad thing about it is even though he may do 20 years in prison he still has a chance to come out and rehabilitate himself but my daughter doesn't have that opportunity," said Fleming.

However, as a godly man, Fleming is conflicted.

On one hand he feels the pain of losing his daughter. On the other, he sees another family go through the same thing.

"He was kind of nonchalant acting to me and that ticked me off, but then once he spoke I think my perspective shifted just a little bit," said Fleming.

Fleming says the Judge in the case said it best.

"No one wins in this situation. She said one family has to bury a loved one and one family has to see their son in a cage for the next 20 years. That's the reality of this situation. No one wins. No one wins in this situation," said Fleming.

This isn't over for the Fleming family. Fleming said the other accused killer, Channay Morehead is set to be in court later this year.
