RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. — A Randolph firefighter community is mourning the death of one of its own.
The New Hope Volunteer Fire Department's former Chief, current first Lieutenant, and community servant leader Michael McDowell died Saturday.
They said McDowell volunteered for more than 20 years with the fire department. He moved to the community from Tabernacle in the summer of 2003, according to New Hope VFD.
The fire department did not say how he died, but it happened unexpectedly.
The Randolph fire community is asking for everyone to keep the McDowell family in their thoughts during this difficult time.
