FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.-- A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper has resigned after being charged with driving while intoxicated in Brunswick County.
The state Department of Public Safety tells local media outlets that William B. Thompson was stopped on Wednesday night and arrested for DWI.
Other details of the arrest have not been reported.Officials say Thompson had been with the patrol for 19 years and resigned a day after his arrest.
He had been assigned to Troop B, District 9 Motor Carrier Enforcement, which is based in Fayetteville.
