NCDOT Hopes to Clear all Triad Roads by Tuesday, Black Ice Remains a Concern

NCDOT crews in the Triad hope to have all roads clear by Tuesday evening. In Guilford County, nearly all secondary roads remain untouched.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- NCDOT crews hope to clear all Triad roads by Tuesday evening, but black ice will be a concern for the rest of the week.

NCDOT says with temperatures dropping into the 20s, black ice is expected to cause issues Tuesday morning.

“We hope to have everything in good shape by Tuesday evening," said John Rhyne, the NCDOT maintenance engineer for Highway Division 9, which consists of Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Rowan and Stokes counties.

Crews started working on secondary roads in the Triad on Monday, but an additional wave of snow led them to revisit interstates and primary roads.

NCDOT says major roadways in Division 7 (Alamance, Caswell, Guilford, Orange, and Rockingham counties) and Division 9 are mostly clear, but still have some icy spots.

Progress on secondary roads varies from county to county.

For example, in Guilford County, secondary roads are still 96 percent untouched. In Forsyth County, only 15 percent of the secondary roads are untouched.
