CHARLOTTE, N.C. — With some kids already back in school and more starting soon, teachers nationwide are preparing for a more digital learning environment.
This year will be the first full school year with a new artificial intelligence style guide in the classroom.
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction introduced a handbook for teachers on how to incorporate AI into learning. The Tar Heel State is just fourth state to do this.
The framework for teachers and students to easily remember how to best use AI follows the acronym "E.V.E.R.Y."
First, Evaluate the initial output to see if it meets the intended purpose and your needs.
Next, Verify the data AI gives you against reliable sources.
Edit your prompt and ask follow up questions to improve the AI answer.
Revise the results of AI separately to fit your final product.
And, finally, remember You are ultimately responsible for everything you create with AI.
The guide recommends to always be transparent about using AI.
The state says the curriculum also includes getting students familiar with possible career paths for the fast growing industry.
However, officials warn districts should only use AI if it helps students learn.
