ROCKY MOUNT, NC (WNCN) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating after a wreck left a Rocky Mount police officer dead, Saturday night.
Senior Police Officer Christopher Driver was on-duty when the wreck happened with a commercial vehicle, described as a bucket truck, according to Corporal Brad Summerlin. It happened on South Church Street just after 10:30 p.m. Corporal Summerlin says Officer Driver was traveling south on South Church Street when his vehicle collided with the bucket truck in his lane. Officer Driver died at the scene.
Authorities shut down South Church Street at West Tarboro Road during the investigation.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol Recon Unit was called from Raleigh to investigate and the crash remains under investigation by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Senior Police Officer Christopher Driver was hired by the Rocky Mount Police Department on February 5th, 2013. He was promoted to the rank of Senior Police Officer on August 26, 2017.
