North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is urging President Donald Trump and members of Congress to end the federal government shutdown.
In a release sent by Cooper's press team, Cooper said the shutdown delays funds necessary for the state to rebound from Hurricane Florence.
“Each day the federal government shutdown continues, it delays long-term funds needed for Hurricane Florence recovery and threatens to hold up vital services for North Carolina families,” Gov. Cooper said. “President Trump and members of Congress must work together to resolve the shutdown quickly and responsibly.”
The shutdown holds up federal funding for many programs, such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants and Children (WIC).
Cooper's administration is monitoring government agencies, parks and services to ease potential impacts of the shutdown, which has now lasted nearly two weeks. Parks like the Blue Ridge Parkway aren't staffed or maintained during the shutdown.
