GREENSBORO, N.C. — The benefit concert put on by the North Carolina Folk Festival at the Steven Tanger Center on Nov. 7 raised over $40,000 for Hurricane Helene relief, according to a press release sent out Tuesday.
The event featured performances from western North Carolina-based bands Steep Canyon Rangers and the Holler Choir. The Steep Canyon Rangers hail from Brevard, while the Holler Choir is from Asheville.
“As a band that calls Western NC home, Steep Canyon Rangers wants to thank the NC Folk Festival, the Tanger Center, Holler Choir, and Greensboro for showing up to benefit the hurricane relief effort,” said Graham Sharp, band member of Steep Canyon Rangers. “We felt so supported, and as a member of the Western NC arts community, we are grateful for all the work that made this such a wonderful night.”
The North Carolina Folk Festival said all proceeds from the benefit concert were given to the North Carolina Arts Foundation Disaster Relief.
Hurricane Helene made landfall in late September and devastated many areas of western North Carolina. The City of Asheville is still without drinkable water, while other areas remain inaccessible even six weeks after the storm hit.
