GREENSBORO, N.C.--North Carolina A&T State University and the city of Greensboro have reached a deal on War Memorial Stadium.
The News and Record of Greensboro reports that in a letter dated Monday, A&T Chancellor Harold Martin said the university will pay $2.5 million toward preserving and renovating the ballpark where former New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter spent part of his minor-league career.
The city will contribute $1.5 million toward repairs and transfer ownership of the stadium to the historically black college.
Greensboro World War Memorial Stadium opened in 1926. It sits close to the A&T campus, and is the home stadium for the university's baseball team. The stadium hosted minor league baseball games through the 2004 season.
Jeter played there as a member of the minor league Greensboro Hornets.
