NASCAR Drivers Paying Tribute to Fallen Greensboro Servicemen at Coca-Cola 600

Drivers will pay tribute by putting the names of servicemen like David Hickman and Bantee Hall II on their cars.

CONCORD, N.C. — A pair of Greensboro natives and fallen military members will be honored Sunday at the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Drivers will pay tribute by putting the names of servicemen like David Hickman and Bantee Hall II on their car windshields. 

Paul Menard and the No. 21 Menards/Knauf Insulation Ford Mustang will honor Hickman, the late U.S. Army Specialist and Northeast Guilford High School graduate.

Hickman died on Nov. 14, 2011, while serving during Operation New Dawn in Baghdad, Iraq. His death stemmed from injuries incurred when his armored truck was hit by a roadside bomb. Hickman was 23.

Hall's name will be on the No. 77 car driven by Quin Houff. Hall II died in a Navy training airplane crash near Gulf Shores, Ala. at 31. Hall II was a graduate of Southeast Guilford High School and North Carolina A&T.

The honors are part of the 600 Miles of Remembrance program for the race that's part of Memorial Day weekend.

Jeffrey Earnhardt, the grandson of the late Dale Earnhardt and nephew of Dale Earnhardt Jr., will have a special tribute to fallen Mooresville Police K-9 Office Jordan Sheldon.
