WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A car crashed through the front of a Winston-Salem restaurant Tuesday morning. Winston-Salem firefighters responded to the crash at Mr. Barbecue off Peters Creek Parkway.
Employees said they were getting ready to open the restaurant when a Blue Hyundai crashed into the front of the building. No one inside the car or the restaurant was hurt.
One employee said three young men were in the car, and it appeared that the car jumped the median on Peters Creek Parkway before crashing into the restaurant. Witnesses said the three people were able to get out of the car on their own.
Police said initial investigation suggests the driver was going down Peters Creek Parkway above the posted speed limit and attempted to avoid hitting a car that pulled out in front of him when the driver ran into the Mr. Barbecue building.
For now, Mr. Barbecue said it is closed until further notice while repairs can be made. In the meantime, the drive-thru is open.
Mr. Barbecue has been around for more than 60 years. Two years ago, the restaurant reopened after fixing damages from a fire that caused it to close for a long stint.
