GIBSONVILLE, N.C. — Guilford County Sheriff's Office and the family of Gwen Collins said she walked away from her home barefoot, in a pink night gown, nearly 5 days ago and hasn't been seen since.
It's a disappearance that has her loved ones shaken up and searching for a glimmer of hope.
Friday, August 9, was the last time Rhonda Collins saw her mom, 62-year-old Gwen Collins.
She disappeared from their home on Bellflower Lane in Gibsonville.
"I just want them to find her, just find her, cause it's been what… 3, 4 days now?" Gwen Collins daughter, Rhonda Collins said.
GCSO issued a Silver Alert the next day. Rhonda and her father, Ronald Collins, said Gwen suffers from schizophrenia and has cataracts on her eyes.
Ronald said he got home from work and took a quick nap before mowing the lawn that afternoon, "we go out to eat every Friday, so I told her I'm gonna go mow the yard and I'll be right back. My daughter, she was at work."
He said she walked away at some point during a 30-minute window when Ronald went to mow the lawn and Rhonda was set to get home from work.
"I came home and I saw the door was open. So, I already knew something was up because she never has that door open. So, when I went in there, I went to her room because she always stays back there. I didn't see her there," Rhonda Collins said.
"When she [Rhonda] called me, I said, 'I'm coming home right now.' I felt something was wrong, so I came on home and she wasn't there," Ronald Collins said.
Both of them are understandably heartbroken.
"It's very hurtful, very hurtful. She is a good person. I mean, she wouldn't hurt a fly, she wouldn't hurt a fly. She would take her shirt off her back and give it to you. That's the kind of person she is," Ronald Collins said.
"I love her and I miss her and I just want them to find her. I just wish this didn't happen," Rhonda Collins said.
