BLUE ALERT SYSTEM
Governor McCrory signed several bills passed by the General Assembly this week. One of those includes House Bill 1044. The bill creates a new statewide alert system within the North Carolina Center for Missing Persons.
The new alert system called, “Blue Alert System” aims to help aid in the apprehension of a suspect who has killed or inflicted serious bodily injury to a law enforcement officer.
The bill also expands the definition of an “Emergency” under the North Carolina Emergency Management Act to include occurrences or imminent threats resulting from terrorism, public health causes, explosions, technological failure or accident, including cyber-incidents, transportation accidents, radiological accidents, or chemical or other hazardous material incidents.
