WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Police said a father shot and killed his two children before turning the gun on himself.
Of those two children, one of which was 16-year-old Kaylee Nicole Housden. She was a student at Atkins High School.
Another student in the district died Monday night, after jumping from a moving school bus a little over a week ago.
17-year-old Alex Wilson was from Parkland High School.
After these two losses, mental health is now top of mind for everyone.
With these recent tragedies, it can be hard for students and staff to handle their day-to-day.
The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System said they are doing everything to make resources available.
"We are working day and night on the preventative side by giving resources to people before tragedy occurs. So I think that it's very important. That's why we are spending time with social-emotional learning. That's why we are spending time assigning mentors to students. That's why we are investing in school social workers and counselors, and trying to make all of those preventative measures," said WS/FCS Superintendent, Tricia McManus.
Crisis teams will be available at Atkins High School and Parkland High School as needed.
McManus said, “those kids were well-loved, and we will do whatever it takes to make sure everyone is okay."
