Mark Robinson dismisses lawsuit over allegations of unpaid bills as 'completely baseless'

Vox Insights is asking Stanly County Court to step in and make Robinson pay his bill.
North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson is in the hospital. He is recovering from second degree burns following a campaign event in Mount Airy.

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson is facing a lawsuit from a polling data company that says he failed to pay a six-figure bill.

Vox Insights, a company that provides polling data to political candidates, filed the lawsuit against Robinson, the Republican nominee for North Carolina governor. The lawsuit was filed on Monday in Stanly County Court.

The company claims Robinson was sent a $114,000 bill for its services on Sept. 18. The invoice required Robinson to pay within 30 days. As of Oct. 29, the company says Robinson has not paid the bill.

Vox Insights believes Robinson does not intend to pay the bill before Election Day. The company says in the lawsuit that Robinson will not be inclined to pay his debts to Vox or other companies after the election. The lawsuit is the company's way of seeking court intervention to ensure it gets paid.

A copy of the invoice was not available in court records. A spokesperson for Robinson's campaign issued the following statement to WCNC Charlotte:

“This lawsuit is completely baseless. The campaign has resolved all invoices for all previous work from this company, and does not owe them one penny. The campaign has not seen any work product from this company on this so-called project, and the work they are alleging was agreed to by a consultant – without Lt. Gov. Robinson’s knowledge or consent – that is no longer with the campaign and had no authority to authorize it. This matter is clearly being pushed by political grifters that are just trying to extort more money from the campaign, and we’re confident that we’ll be successful in court and these bad actors will be exposed.”

Not much information is publicly available about Vox Insights. The company is registered in Wyoming and does not appear to have a website.

This is not the only legal action related to Robinson. He is suing CNN over a report that he made racial and sexual posts on NudeAfrica, an online forum. Robinson calls the report reckless and defamatory and is seeking at least $25,000 in damages.
