Greensboro councilwoman Marikay Abuzuaiter 'strongly considering' running for mayor

Abuzuaiter was first elected to the City Council in 2011 as an At-Large Councilmember. She was re-elected in 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2022.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Marikay Abuzuaiter says she is strongly considering running for Greensboro mayor, according to her Facebook post Monday morning.

Abuzuaiter was first elected to the City Council in 2011 as an At-Large Councilmember. She was re-elected in 2013, 2015, 2019 and 2022.

"After receiving numerous calls, texts, emails, and in-person inquiries, I want to publicly state that I am strongly considering running for the Mayoral position," she wrote on her Facebook. "As I consider this decision, I am using the same thoughtful and deliberate approach that I use daily as your representative, and I will let you know as soon as I reach my decision."

Current Greensboro Mayor Nancy Vaughan announced that would not be seeking re-election earlier this month.  She's been with the city since 2013.
