GREENSBORO, N.C. — The man accused of fatally shooting the nephew of American Idol winner and High Point native Fantasia Barrino pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2018 case.
David Lee White Jr. pleaded guilty to the crime in Guilford County Superior Court in January 2024, the Chief Assistant District Attorney confirmed. He was sentenced to at least 26 years in prison.
White shot and killed 18-year-old Tyquan Vonricco Washington on Hyde Street in Greensboro back in February 2018.
Police said White robbed Washington, and the two knew each other.
The family's publicist said Washington wanted to pursue music like his father, Ricco Barrino, who is Fantasia Barrino's brother. He was expected to see his dad the week that he was killed.
