Police identified the man they arrested as Lawrence Baird. Baird faces two counts of First Degree Murder, Shooting into occupied dwelling, and Possession of firearm by a felon. He's in the Guilford County Detention Center with no bond. The university confirms Baird was not a student there.

Statement from NC A&T officials about the arrest: “The North Carolina A&T community is relieved to know that an arrest has been made in the murders of Ahmad Campbell and Alisha Dieudonne. Our hearts go out to the families of Alisha and Ahmad. They have suffered unimaginably over the past 22 months. This has been a painful ordeal for the A&T community, as well. We hope this arrest brings some measure of closure to all who knew Alisha and Ahmad, and we remain hopeful that justice will be delivered in this case. Finally, we offer our sincere thanks to members of the Greensboro Police Department for their diligence and commitment to this case.”

Police say they were called to the 900 block on Circle Drive around 2 a.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2016. They say a fight escalated and shots were fired, hitting both students who later died at the hospital.

"It’s been a lot for our family," explains Jennifer Barber, Alisia's aunt. "She would be a college student right about now. She would be a junior."

Barber was at the police department when they announced Baird's arrest. She says it gives the family some closure, but doesn't bring Alisia back.

I"t’s a void but I’m just thankful for this day," Barber tells. "That I’m living this life to know that somebody has been apprehended for her death. That’s one thing we wanted."

Police said they couldn't give many details about how they connected this suspect to the murders.

In his first appearance, the judge set Baird's bond at $4 million. He's due back in court September 25.
