Man dies after truck he was riding in overturned near Asheboro Regional Airport, police say

Asheboro police said the truck the man was in was not being operated properly.

ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man is dead after overturning into a large field in near the Asheboro Regional Airport Sunday, police say. 

Officers responded to the area of Tot Hill Farm Road in reference to reports of a truck overturned in a field. 

Fire and EMS personnel arrived on scene and began rendering aid before Asheboro police arrived. When they got to the scene, they found that a white in color 1996 Toyota T-100 truck had accessed the property of the Asheboro Regional Airport via Tot Hill Farm Road. 

The truck drove around the perimeter fence of the airport and into a large field southeast of the airport. 

The truck was allegedly being drive by a 35-year-old man. 

Kyle David Dixon, 31, and a 46-year-old man has been riding in the open bed area of the truck. The truck was being operated in a careless and reckless manner which resulted in the truck rolling over, according to police. 

Dixon and the other man in the bed were ejected from the truck. 

The driver was not hurt and the other passenger sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. Dixon sustained life-threatening injuries and taken to an out-of-county medical facility, police say. 

On Monday, Dixon died as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. This incident is being investigated by Asheboro police. Investigators will consult with the District Attorney's Office to determine appropriate charges.
