GREENSBORO, N.C. — A new Greensboro business was forced to shut down after city leaders said it was illegally operating as a nightclub.
The City of Greensboro said it was getting complaints about The Lost Diamond, a newly-permitted restaurant on Walker Avenue, for noise, sounds of gunshots, disturbances, and heavy traffic.
The city said the applicant was approved as a 'restaurant' with 'no hookah.' However, the Greensboro Fire Department inspected the business on June 4 and determined it didn't comply with its permit. Meanwhile, the restaurant's Instagram page calls itself a 'Social Hookah Lounge & Restaurant.'
The fire department and the City's zoning enforcement team shut down the business as a result.
The business faces violations for illegal use (proximity to residential) and new use without proper permitting.
The restaurant will be closed until the operators return to the original use as a 'restaurant' or a change of use is granted.
The ALE and UNCG Police are also involved in the case.
