Local animal shelters send dogs to the Puppy Bowl

Last year, 51 shelters from 23 states sent dogs to the Puppy Bowl to be adopted.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Is there anything cuter than the Puppy Bowl?  The show has been on for 18 years before the Super Bowl. Last year, 103 puppies from 23 states joined in and those puppies come from 51 shelters across the nation. The focus is not to just watch cute puppies but to raise awareness for pet adoption.

At the end of each break, puppies currently available for adoption will be shown during the program. And it works! A shelter in Virginia has been part of the Puppy Bowl for the last couple of years.

"I just thought he was the most amazing animal ever, he was ginormous at Puppy Bowl,” said Cassie Harding, Dog Mom to Levi.

The Green Dogs Unleashed shelter in Troy, Virginia will be sending eight pups to the puppy bowl this year. And like in years past, they'll be sending special needs as well.

"This gives the community and the general public the opportunity to see just how incredible deaf and sometimes deaf and vision impaired puppies can be. They can do absolutely anything any of the other pups can do,” said Erika Proctor, Executive Director, of Green Dogs Unleashed.
