Lieutenant talks about water rescue after two stranded in flood waters

One rescue happened on Wolf Island Road, another on Bethesda Church Road.

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. — Rising waters and flooded-out roads were found here in the Triad Tuesday night.

Thankfully most of the roads that had some flooding issues have reopened Wednesday.

Other roads like Bethesda Church in Stokes County will be closed for a while due to complete washouts.

A rescue took place on Bethesda Road last night after someone tried driving through flood waters.

Madison-Rockingham Rescue Squad Lieutenant, Ayden Murphy, said "Myself and Chief Stewart arrived on scene after the fire departments, and we put on our swift water, dry suits and life jackets and full PPE. Inflated our boat, and was tethered via ropes to personnel on the roadside. And we waded out in the water and retrieved the victim, put a life jacket on them, got them out of the car, secured them in the boat and then walked them back across while the ropes were assisting, pulling us back."

First responders in that area said they had two rescues Tuesday night in Rockingham County, the one on Bethesda Church Road and another on Wolf Island Road.

Reidsville and Eden rescue squads used a raft to rescue an adult and child who were trapped in their car in a cornfield near Wolf Island Creek.

Rockingham County deputies told us the car drove into rising water, sweeping it into the cornfield.

It took rescue squads nearly an hour to get to the family.

Two roads were still closed earlier Wednesday in Stoneville and Madison. River Road and Dan Valley Road.

It isn't uncommon for these roadways to flood when we get significant rainfall.

Emergency responders though want everyone to listen to roadblock signs if you see them, and do not drive through standing water on roadways.

"Just like some people do on the highway, they stop under the underpass. If you can't see, it's unsafe to drive. You need to stop, and let the weather subside to be able to continue safely," Murphy said.

Several counties in the Triad experienced flooding Tuesday night and some of the damages are severe.

The Stokes County Sheriff's Office posted a series of photos to Facebook showing a giant crack in Franklin Moore Road.

Take a look at the photos:

Deputies said Tuesday that Moore Springs Road is closed at Talley Road, Franklin Moore Road is closed, and Bethesda Church Road is closed.

The sheriff's office warned the Pine Hall/ Madison community to be prepared for additional flooding as the water travels downstream.
