LEXINGTON, N.C. — On Sunday morning, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Lexington Police officers engaged in a pursuit of a 1998 Ford F-150 reported stolen out of Greensboro.
During the chase, one officer was involved in a single-vehicle crash in the 300 block of Sink Inn Road, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was transported to Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health Medical Center in Winston-Salem for treatment.
The stolen vehicle continued fleeing until the driver, identified as Phillip Burnett, 29, crashed into the Powerline Batteries building located at 2312 South Main Street.
Fortunately, the building was unoccupied at the time of the crash.
After the collision, Burnett attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by the NC State Highway Patrol. He was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Health Lexington Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries and was later released.
Charges Filed Against Phillip Burnett
Burnett faces a long list of charges, including:
- Felony flee to elude
- Felony resist, obstruct, and delay
- Possession of a stolen motor vehicle
- Driving while license revoked
- Failure to stop at a stop sign
- Speeding
- Misdemeanor hit and run
- Felony possession of Schedule I controlled substances
In addition, Burnett had outstanding warrants, including:
- An order for arrest out of Rowan County
- Two warrants for hit and run and failure to stop at a stop sign
- A full extradition federal warrant from Virginia, issued by the U.S. Marshals
Detention and Court Date
Burnett was booked into the Davidson County Detention Center and is being held without bond. He is scheduled to appear in Lexington District Court on January 8, 2025.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, which involved multiple law enforcement agencies.
